My Journey

Greetings, I'm Catherine, a seasoned psychological professional and a compassionate advocate and ally for families touched by autism spectrum disorder (ASD). My personal journey into the world of autism began with a pivotal moment when my son, Matthew, was diagnosed with autism at the tender age of two.

Parent and child bonding

Determined to provide Matthew with the best possible care and support, I embarked on a relentless pursuit of the most effective therapies and treatments, investing over $1 million and countless hours in his well-being. Through this challenging yet transformative experience, I have gained a profound understanding of the trials and triumphs that accompany raising a child with autism.

My unwavering commitment, coupled with the vast knowledge I've acquired along this journey, has uniquely positioned me to offer guidance and support to families navigating similar paths. I firmly believe that my firsthand experiences, coupled with a deep sense of empathy and understanding, qualify me to assist and empower others as they navigate the intricate landscape of autism.

Join me as we walk this path together, drawing upon resilience, hope, and a shared dedication to ensuring that every child with autism receives the care, understanding, and support they deserve. Together, we can make a difference, one step at a time.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know I need to seek parenting support?

Trust your parental instincts. If you find yourself struggling and unsure about how to handle your child's behaviors, there is absolutely no shame in seeking professional support as early as the issues occur. Often times altering certain parenting approaches at time can already do the trick, while other scenarios may require further referrals/forms of support [we can provide the resources].

Do children grow out of developmental hiccups or autism?

Contrary to common myths, children do not just "grow out" of delays or ASD as they "mature". Though autism cannot be outgrown, it is safe to say that early diagnosis and personalised treatment plans, in some cases, can improve the symptoms of autism and help those with the disorder live lives that are less governed by their autistic traits and symptoms.

My child does not have any diagnosed disorders but I still feel stuck. What can I do?

Just like how counselling and psychotherapy enhances mental well-being regardless of one's happiness levels, parenting is an ongoing process and is ever-evolving with each child and their developmental stages. Therefore, it is always beneficial to seek parenting support whenever you get stuck at handling your child's range of behaviors!

Will other people find out about what my child and our family is going through?

Confidentiality: Rest assured that everything discussed in our sessions together remains strictly confidential, creating a safe space for open communication. However, there are a few rare exceptions where confidentiality may not fully apply:

  • Imminent harm to yourself or others: If you express intentions of harming yourself or someone else, your therapist may need to take steps to ensure everyone's safety.
  • Suicidal thoughts with specific plans: If you share specific plans for suicide, your therapist may need to seek help to keep you safe.
  • Court order requesting information: If a court order compels release of information, your therapist must comply but will notify you beforehand.

Beyond these exceptional situations, your therapy sessions are a wholly confidential space for you to explore your thoughts and feelings without worry.
